Topic: Fire Station Design Best Practices

Most of you know that WSKF Architects recently completed the design of Park University’s new business school but did you also know that besides Higher Education Design WSKF Architects is also a leader in Public Safety Design? Our design work includes fire stations, police stations, EMS stations, 911 dispatch centers, training centers, as well as joint facilities. With public safety work from Florida to Wyoming, WSKF is bringing conscious and forward-thinking design to public safety departments all over the country.

Dalyn Novak will talk this Friday about some of the best practices for fire station design. Some topics that will be covered include general fire station design (what is typically included in modern day fire station), building code issues with this type of facility, and firefighter health and wellness, including how we, as architects, can help reduce the risk of cancer and other health issues to firefighters.

Dalyn Novak graduated from Kansas State University in 2006.  She was awarded the Heintzelman Prize Honorable Mention in design excellence for her final design project. Dalyn went to work at WSKF Architects after graduation. She became a licensed architect in early 2011. Shortly after licensure she began volunteering for NCARB, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards to help create the newest version of the ARE (Architectural Registration Exam). She volunteered with NCARB from 2014 to 2020. Dalyn became a principal and owner at WSKF Architects in January 2020. She and Rick Kuhl, one of her partners, lead the public safety market for WSKF Architects.

Robert Kersey arranged for this program.

The Parkville Rotary Book Club - Book 2
DATE CHANGE!!

Thank you to all those who participated in reading Book 1 - Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek.  Book two will be Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss.

The goal of this group is to read a leadership or personal development type book & discuss with your fellow community leaders at Rotary.  We will discuss for 10-15 minutes or so after the meeting on Friday, October 22nd.

The date was pushed back to give more people time to read the book or to finish reading the book.

So come with ideas...  No need to RSVP, we’re going to keep this very informal.

We hope you’ll join us!
