Topic: Establishing the Parkville Historic Society

Dean Katerndahl has been mayor of Parkville for a little over 4 years. Prior to that he was chair of the Parkville Planning Commission for about 14 years. Prior to retirement he worked for the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) working with city and county managers on cooperative projects throughout the region. Dean and his wife, Marcia, have lived in Parkville on Main St since 2005. They have a son, Casey, who is a cancer research scientist at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis.

About a year ago Dean and Professor Tim Westcott of Park University, invited a number of individuals and organizations to meet to explore establishing a Parkville Historic Society. They are still in the formative stage, but have developed a website (parkvillehistory.org) and are slowly working on several initiatives, including becoming a more formal organization. Dean will bring us up to date on their work and introduce us to the website.

Parkville Rotary Gifts $1000 to SPEAC
On October 9th, guest speakers at our weekly Friday meeting were Cora Smith and Susie Hines.  They are President,  and Director of Food Procurement, respectively, at South Platte Emergency Assistance Center,  which is housed in the lower level of Parkville Presbyterian Church.

SPEAC is our local food pantry, it served over 6,000 individuals last year. Started in 1989, as a coalition between 4 local churches. It is staffed entirely by volunteers, and is part of the Harvesters food network.

Parkville Rotary Club presented SPEAC with a donation check of $1,000.  The club also has announced that  SPEAC will  be the beneficiary of their Trivia Night Fundraiser in January.

Parkville Rotary Plaza Status Update

The center stone island is built and awaits the relocation of the Rotary clock, which is imminent. Rotary volunteers helped with the plantings yesterday. Thank you to all who participated. More plants will be placed into the new island center garden once the clock is in place.

Completion of construction is still projected as October 31st, with signage installation to follow in the weeks ahead.

Last minute addition: Brittanie at the City confirmed tonight that the scheduled move date of the clock is now next Monday, weather permitting. Power was removed from the clock this afternoon in prep of the move.

Update provided by Dave Rittman

Below are some photos of the landscaping installation.
Rotarians Chelsey, Edie, Mark, Jessika, plus future Rotarian Mack did plantings at and around Rotary Plaza next to Farmers Market in Parkville.
