District Governor Visit - July 21st

You are invited to a meeting with District Governor Randy Steinman on July 21st at noon at Gusto Coffee. Randy has shared with our club a step by step guide on how to reach out to our community to engage with them on service projects that they feel would benefit our community.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the plan and how to bring together "thought leaders" in our community.  We welcome your input and sincerely hope you will attend.

RSVPing is not required, but very welcome so that we can monitor the amount of space we will need at Gusto.

Friday, July 21st (day after Third Thursday event)

Foundation HOOP-LA 2023

Welcome to our new Rotary year 2023-2024.  We are looking forward to working closely with all of you this year and having a more interactive relationship with all the D6040 clubs.  We have lots of exciting things planned for the year with one of the most important being our Foundation Dinner bringing a new venue and new theme!  This years Foundation HOOP-LA will be held on Saturday, November 4th from 6-9 pm at the College Basketball Experience in DT Kansas City.

This year's foundation committee has deemed that there is a desire to bring in additional outside funding for the event (so more of our members total donations can go directly to the annual fund). We have put together a foundation community sponsorship committee that will be working with all of you (as well as businesses within our D6040) to solicit outside sponsors to help those businesses market to our 2000+ members and also spread the message of Rotary to additional potential members.  (Two birds/one stone)

I have attached a draft appeal letter, the community sponsorship form, & flyers to help present our ask to businesses within each of your local communities. (Let Dalyn know if you want these attachments.)  If you do not feel comfortable with the ask but have a recommendation for one of us to reach out to that works as well.

If you have any questions or need any additional information please let me know.  Looking forward to scoring big for our communities again this year!

Donations Needed to Assist Turkey Victims of the Earthquake

The Parkville Rotary Club is teaming up with the Istanbul, Turkey Rotary Club to provide relief to Turkish victims of the devastating earthquake and aftershocks that struck southern Turkey (and Syria) in February. An estimated 50,000 were killed, and over 1.9 million displaced, according to World Vision. Food, shelter, and health care are a struggle. More than 350,000 pregnant women, for example, are struggling to access health care and daily essentials, according the UN.

Funds raised in Missouri will benefit the Istanbul Rotary Club’s Project Hope, which is providing housing (523 tents and a 120-family “container camp”); food and hygiene (2,300 boxes of 11kg food packages); health care (a mobile hospital to replace one that was destroyed); and education (two mobile education centers) for survivors.

Donations in any amount are desperately needed, and deeply appreciated. Steven Youngblood has organized this fundraiser.
