Rotary Means Business/Membership Moment

Parkville Rotary’s Membership Committee is putting a new emphasis on talking about members’ businesses as a way to get to know each other better and increase professional networking.  This is based on a recent article in The Rotarian, and Parkville Rotary has adopted the phrase, “Rotary Means Business.” We believe a healthy Rotary club can and should be a place of both professional networking and serving others.

On Friday 10/15/21 Dalyn Novak told us a bit about her role as a partner and architect at WSKF in North Kansas City (& I wasn’t on the ball in getting a photo).  On Friday 10/22/21, Lee McLain discussed his wealth of experience in home loans for new mortgages and refinancing.  These short presentations will continue, as we believe it shares the truth, it is fair to all, it builds better friendships & is beneficial to all.  We have some really sharp, capable folks in our midst.  It’s impressive, and we should share and be proud.

Scott Walterbach
Parkville Rotary President '20-'21

Comments on the topic from the Membership Committee...
Occasionally we will have a current member do a five-minute presentation on their business or profession, to include things we might not know about that business as well as how they spend their day; the challenges facing their business and their industry; what they like best about their position; how they got started in this line of work, etc.  Don Breckon is scheduling the presentations.  If you would like to volunteer for a specific date, please contact Don.  At the very least, be thinking about what you want to present when asked.

We will also be asking various business men and women to present a program on their business.  In addition to educating our membership, our goal is to introduce these people to Rotary and, hopefully, gain some members. If you are scheduled to arrange a program, you may wish to consider inviting a business owner or manager to present the program on their business.

These are but two parts of a membership recruitment plan. At the October board meeting some fees were reduced or eliminated. At the November board meeting we will be discussing our membership structure and further fee reductions, along with other recruitment strategies.

Please be thinking about who you think could be a good Rotarian
INVITE THEM TO A MEETING! The first THREE meals are free for potential members.  Help us grow the Club! Your membership Committee Chair is Debbie Hopkins.  Feel free to talk to her about new members and recruitment strategies.
