This Wednesday: Social with KCI Rotary Club
TWA Overhaul Base
RSVP was required to attend

The KCI and Parkville Rotary Clubs have been meeting and working together on a number of projects, to include social activities. KCI Rotary has invited Parkville Rotary to join them in a special social at the former TWA (American) Overhaul Base at the International Airport (NOT downtown) on Wednesday October 29th, at about 5:30 PM. This will include a tour of one of the two only remaining FLYABLE Lockheed L1011 Tri-Jet jumbo jets in the World. This three engine jet was the competitor to the DC -10 in the 1968 thru 1984.

The one here at KCI participates in several airshows, recently including Plebo, CO, Georgia, and Branson. Part of the interior the plane is currently set up as a classroom. There will be beverages and light food (deli sandwiches, etc.) available during the social. There will be a minor cost per person to cover expenses.

More information about where we are going can be found at:  kcaviationstem.com  This TriStar Experience was founded by Kerry Floyd and Mike Saxton. They saw a serviceable aircraft being scrapped, and an idea was born. There was a shortage of Pilot/STEM programs within the field of aviation, and they wanted the TriStar Experience to fill that gap. The plane that started it all is now a STEM classroom where students can experience an immersive learning opportunity in which they will experience aerodynamic science and the thrill of flight.

We would meet in a parking lot just outside and to the north of the security gate, and be taken by 12 passenger vans onto the tarmac and to the airplane. The vans would depart from outside the front gate at 5:30 PM and bring you back to your cars about 7 PM. Given the special security involved and getting through the TSA gates, late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

Thank you again to all the Parkville Rotary members who took time out of their schedules to be at City Hall last evening for the Proclamation for World Polio Day. Jodi, our District Governer sent me 4 digital photos they took last night in City Hall, for your info and use.

Host During the FIFA World Cup

As we prepare to welcome Rotarians from around the world to Kansas City for the 2026 World Cup, we invite hosts in the area to consider extending a warm Rotary welcome beyond providing lodging. (This email is being sent to all active Rotary members in District 6040 - so if  you're too far from Kansas City to consider hosting, please disregard this email.)

Simple gestures such as sharing a morning coffee, offering a few home-cooked meals, or gathering for local outings can make the experience even more meaningful. These personal touches embody Rotary’s spirit of fellowship and service—helping our guests feel truly at home in our community.

A little later, we will ask you to complete an information page about yourself, your family, household pets, multilingual abilities, etc. in order to best match you with visiting Rotarians.

Let’s make our club part of the story when the world comes to KC. Let’s show them that Rotarians don’t just talk about service — we live it (and host it!).
