Deb Hermann is Chief Executive Officer of Northland Neighborhoods, Inc., a community development corporation serving Clay and Platte Counties. Deb grew up in Ames, Iowa and married Tom Hermann while he served our country in the Navy. Deb and Tom moved to Kansas City in 1979, raised their three children in the Gracemor neighborhood and thirty-three years later, still live in the same home. Deb joined the Gracemor Randolph Community Council, attacking problems without attacking people. When her neighborhood began losing the battle against petty crime and vandalism, she brought in community policing, started community teen nights, and got the senior citizens active again. Deb has taken on tough fights and big corporations, but her success has always come from knowing real solutions are created by bringing people together to work towards a common vision. Deb was appointed to the City Planning Commission in 1999 and the Property Maintenance Advisory Committee as chairperson in 2001. In 2003, Deb was elected to the City Council, where she served as chair of the Neighborhood Services and Housing Committee. She was re-elected in 2007 and as chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, stood at the center of the budget storm. With a $48 million deficit, she took on the problem the only way she knew how — by putting politics aside, looking out for what was best for the entire City. Her professionalism, honesty and strength of character led the way to a solution for a problem that seemed unsolvable. In her city-wide vision, she sees great possibilities for Kansas City and wants City Hall to build on that foundation by creating new jobs in expanding high growth sectors, rebuilding the urban core and bringing a culture of excellence to City Hall. She has a steely commitment to honesty, problem solving and hard work.
Deb moved next to the position of CEO of Northland Neighborhoods, Inc., in 2011. She has made major strides in receiving grants for home repair programs for our neediest neighborhoods. She works with all cities in the northland; clay and platte counties, and of course, Kansas City, to make the northland the best that it can be. She has, in recent years, chaired the PIAC Committee and is currently the chair of the Port Authority. She has chaired and continues to be a board member of the Clay County Childrens Fund and Chairperson of Port Authority.

New Meeting Location Starting Nov. 1st
Starting November 1st, we will be trying out a new meeting location at the Parkville Living Center (819 Main St Suite 304b, Parkville, MO 64152). This move is part of our effort to increase visibility within the community and grow our membership.
We are excited about the potential this new location offers in helping us connect with more people and make a bigger impact. We will keep evaluating how the change influences engagement and welcome your feedback along the way.

#14 - Exchange of Club Banners
One of the colorful traditions of many Rotary clubs is the exchange of small banners, flags or pennants. Rotarians traveling to distant locations often take banners to exchange at "make up" meetings as a token of friendship. Many clubs use the decorative banners they have received for attractive displays at club meetings and district events.
The Rotary International board recognized the growing popularity of the banner exchange back in 1959 and suggested that those clubs which participate in such exchanges give careful thought to the design of their banners in order that they be distinctive and expressive of the community and country of which the club is a part. It is recommended that banners include pictures, slogans or designs which portray the territorial area of the club.
The board was also mindful of the financial burden such exchange may impose upon some clubs, especially in popular areas where many visitors make up and request to exchange. In all instances, clubs are cautioned to exercise discretion and moderation in the exchange of banners in order that the financial obligations do not interfere with the basic service activities of the club.
Exchanging club banners is a very pleasant custom, especially when a creative and artistic banner tells an interesting story of community pride. The exchange of banners is a significant tradition of Rotary and serves as tangible symbol of our international fellowship.
