Hurricane Relief thru Rotary
Parkville Rotary recently donated $300 to the hurricane fund below. We encourage Parkville Rotarians to donate as well if they are able.
My dear fellow Rotarians,
Once again, our Rotary family and neighbors have been stricken by a natural disaster. As specific needs develop within our zone, we will communicate that information to you. You can also review the relief information that is posted on The Disaster Network of Assistance Rotary Action Group (DNA RAG) website.
I also want to bring to your attention a message from adjoining zones 33-34 that Director Patrick Eakes communicated. Please take the time to review and support.
We are not quite three months into the 2024-25 Rotary year, and a second devastating hurricane has caused widespread serious damage and loss of life in several of our districts, including those in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. The damage is massive and ongoing, and more than 60 people have lost their lives so far.
Our Communications Action Plan team has updated the disaster relief page <https://www.rizones33-34.org/disaster-relief/> on our zones' 33-34 website to include a donation link to support recovery efforts. This is the same page that we used for Hurricane Beryl. However, this time, we are directing donations to a bank account owned by our zones. Our Zones are recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which means that we operate as a recognized charity.
The eight districts in Florida have worked together effectively to address needs following two hurricanes in the last two years, and they have provided a powerful model that can be a starting point for us. Our plan is to collect donations through our website and assemble a team of experienced Rotary leaders to make recommendations about how to disperse the donations to create the maximum positive effect. We will also rely on Rotary leaders in the affected districts to determine the highest priorities in their areas and how to address them. Together, we will work to address as many needs as possible.
I encourage you to consider directing Rotarians, Rotary and Rotaract Clubs, and friends of Rotary to our disaster relief page <https://www.rizones33-34.org/disaster-relief/>. I have already done the same with an RI Director-Elect who inquired what his districts and clubs can do to support us.
I expect to have additional information for you in the coming days. Until then, I send my prayers to all of you whose districts have been affected by this storm.
Patrick

An email from Greg Prymak to Bob Stone:
Good morning Bob,
Lest you think either that I'm hiding out at Onset or that I've met my demise--I'm OK, but heading for GA tomorrow (10/3/24) to work on the FEMA mission for Hurricanes Debby and Helene. I don't know when I'll be back, but I'm thinking December or January.
My best to Cherry and you, as always!
Greg

#12 - World Understanding Month
The month of February is very special in the Rotary calendar since it is designated World Understanding Month. The month also includes the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary held on February 23, 1905, now designated World Understanding and Peace Day.
In designating World Understanding Month, the Rotary International board asks all Rotary clubs to plan programs for their weekly meeting and undertake special activities to emphasize "understanding and goodwill as essential for world peace."
To observe this designated month, many clubs arrange international speakers, invite youth exchange students and international scholars from schools and universities to club meetings, plan programs featuring former Group Study Exchange team members, arrange discussions on international issues, present entertainment with an international cultural or artistic them and schedule other programs with an international emphasis.
Many clubs take the opportunity to launch an international community service activity or make contact with a Rotary club in another country is a good month to initiate a Rotary Fellowship Exchange, a 3-H project o encourage support for PolioPlus and other Rotary Foundation programs.
World Understanding Month is a chance for every club to pause, plan and promote the Fourth Avenue of Service-Rotary's continued quest for goodwill, peace and understanding among people of the world.
