Help Us Celebrate Jim Roberts
Friday, December 1st

James Woodford (“Buster”) Roberts, 90, a long-term resident of Platte County, MO passed away peacefully on November 9, 2023, at North Kansas City Hospital.  He was born February 24, 1933 in Weston, MO to James W. and Mary Myrtle (Linville) Roberts.  They preceded him in death.

Jim graduated from high school in Weston and served his country in the United States Navy.  He was a hard worker, smart businessman, and all-around good person.   He spent the majority of his career with TWA and later owned and operated The Roberts Company for over 20 years.  He enjoyed anything to do with tools, had a passion for archaeology, and was a history buff.  Jim was very proud of his membership in Rotary International and the local Parkville Rotary Club.  He was always putting “Service above Self.”

Survivors include his beloved wife of 36 years, Janet Jo (Hurt) Roberts; children: Sheryl McAvoy and husband, Matt of Overland Park, KS, and Mary Ann Silvius of Kansas City, MO; step-children: Kelly Medlock and husband, Phil of Platte County, MO, Kris Morrow and wife, Kelli of Liberty, MO, and Matt Morrow and wife, Nikki of Parkville, MO; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Park Roberts; his two sons, DeWayne and Daryl Roberts; and his sister, Kathryn Cline.

There will be a Celebration of Life reception on Friday, December 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Olde Mill Emporium, 168 S. Main St., Parkville, MO.

Memorial donations may be made to Parkville Rotary Club.

Please join as we go to Jim's Celebration of Life in lieu of a Rotary meeting next week.

We would like to meet at 1pm and walk in together if possible, but please know you are welcome to attend anytime between 1-4pm.

Salvation Army Kettle Ringing Volunteers Needed

The Parkville Rotary Club is signed up to volunteer at the Salvation Army Kettle Ringing on December 9th, from 4-6:30 at the Hy-Vee at 5330 NW 64th St., Kansas City, MO 64151.

This is a great cause and we hope to see you.  We will have a sign-up sheet for 45 minute shifts - if you can't stay for the entire time.  Please be on the lookout for the sign-up sheet in a future email/at our club meetings.

What Happens When You Ring

Each year, The Salvation Army will serve more than 25 million people across America – including many here in your community. That means 55+ million meals for the hungry, 10+ million nights of shelter for the homeless, and countless Christmas gifts for children who may otherwise go without.
So truly, you can make a difference with every ring. The funds you raise as a Salvation Army bell ringer will make a year-round impact in your community through social services assistance, homeless shelters, disaster relief, children’s programs, rehabilitation services, anti-human trafficking, and more.
Donations in the red kettle stay local – directly impacting the lives of your neighbors by helping them in their time of need. When you ring the bell, you’re making change happen.
