Parkville Rotary is pleased to host a food drive for Feed Northland Kids and speaker Gwen O'Brien on January 31, 2025 @ 5:30-7:00pm.
Feed Northland Kids serves children and youth by providing the nourishment they need to grow, learn, and thrive.
More than 11,000 children in Kansas City’s Northland communities struggle with food insecurity, meaning that they lack reliable access to enough affordable and nutritious food to support their health and development. Food insecurity presents daily physical and emotional stresses to these kids and their families.
Our Community Food Kits, which include non-perishable staples, fresh produce, and ground beef, support the needs of entire families. Our in-school pantries provide students ready-to-eat food and snacks, plus items they can take home and share. Your support helps the food-insecure kids here in Clay and Platte Counties get the nutrition they need to reach their full potential.
Consider donating food items: Hamburger Helper, instant potatoes packets/noodle sides, and/or individual bags of chips/goldfish, fruit, healthy snacks etc.
Registration is required for this event. Please email Sandy K at SandyKnoe@outlook.com to RSVP.
Please bring all the food items you can. Rotarians are happy to unload your vehicle. We really want you to be here, but if you cannot here is a way to donate securely to Feed Northland Kids. Click the blue box below:
The PHF Promotion has been extended to the end of January so if you are not yet a PHF now is your chance!
Want to know more about being a Paul Harris Fellow? Click the blue box below.
We've had good traction with the 50/50 matching first time Paul Harris Fellow promotion. SO... Please share with your membership that the offer has been extended through the end of January.
District 6040 is making it easier for you to become a 1st time Paul Harris Fellow! Now through the end of January, when you donate $500 to The Rotary Foundation, District 6040 will match that with 500 Foundation points and you will be awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship - at half price!
This offer is good for 1st time PHF recipients only and is not applicable in meeting a Paul Harris Society commitment.
DETAILS:
AND - Any Rotarian who wants to become a 1st time Paul Harris Fellow OR wants to get to their next PHF can participate! (Points cannot be used for Paul Harris Society members.)
SO - We will match up to 500 points for up to a $500 donation to the Foundation. If a Rotarian is already a PHF and would like to add another PHF designation, we will match their donation to the Foundation 1:1.
If you'd like to become a Paul Harris Fellow and take advantage of this offer, please contact District 6040 Annual Fund Chair, Dan Gabbert at dan@dangabbert.com or 816.309.5626.
Which club will have the most new Paul Harris Fellows and take advantage of this offer? We'll announce progress after the 1st of the year.
As we continue our mission to serve the community and foster opportunities for growth, it’s time to start planning for this year’s scholarship program.
We are looking for club members who would like to serve on the Scholarship Committee. This is a meaningful opportunity to help select deserving students who align with our values and commitment to making a difference.
Serving on the committee will involve reviewing applications, participating in discussions, and helping make decisions about the recipients. It’s a rewarding way to connect with our local youth and invest in the future leaders of our community.
If you are interested or have any questions, please let me know by January 15th. We would like to have our 1st committee meeting this Friday at noon. Your involvement would make a significant impact, and I would be thrilled to have you on board!
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the Rotary mission.

Rotary Fact of the Week!
50 Things Every Rotarian Should Know about Rotary
by Steve Garret, District Governor 1994-95, District 5300
#24 - The District Conference
Most Rotarians have never attended a Rotary district conference. They have not experienced one of the most enjoyable and rewarding privileges of Rotary membership.
A district conference is for all club members and their spouses, not just for club officers and committee members. The purpose of a district conference is for fellowship, good fun, inspirational speakers and discussion of matters which make one's Rotary membership more meaningful. Every person who attends a district conference finds that being a Rotarian becomes even more rewarding because of the new experiences, insights and acquaintances developed at the conference. Those who attend a conference enjoy going back, year after year.
Every one of Rotary's more than 500 districts has a conference annually. These meetings are considered so important that the Rotary International president selects a knowledgeable Rotarian as his personal representative to attend and address each conference. The program always includes several outstanding entertainment features, interesting discussions and inspirational programs.
One of the unexpected benefits of attending a district conference is the opportunity to become better acquainted with members of one's own club in an informal setting. Lasting friendships grow from the fellowship hours at the district conference.
