Topic: Elizabeth Alex

Elizabeth Alex is the senior director of public relations and community outreach at Kansas City University (KCU). In her role at KCU, Elizabeth helps tell the story of the University, its programs, students, faculty and research on the KCU campuses in Kansas City and Joplin. Additionally, Elizabeth serves as co-chair of the KCU Community Outreach Task Force.

Before her work in public relations and community outreach, Elizabeth enjoyed a long career in television news. She was an anchor and reporter at KSHB-TV in Kansas City, earning many journalism awards for health and investigative reporting that included five Regional Emmys.

Additionally, Elizabeth volunteers with humanitarian organizations in the Kansas City area and around the world. She sits on the boards of Metropolitan Community College Foundation, Mattie Rhodes Center, Kansas City PBS and United Aid Foundation.

Elizabeth graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Elizabeth will discuss her humanitarian work at the Romanian-Ukraine border and tell us about the refugee mothers and children she has been serving there since the Russian invasion.

Tom Taylor arranged this program.

Donations Needed to Assist Turkey Victims of the Earthquake

The Parkville Rotary Club is teaming up with the Istanbul, Turkey Rotary Club to provide relief to Turkish victims of the devastating earthquake and aftershocks that struck southern Turkey (and Syria) in February. An estimated 50,000 were killed, and over 1.9 million displaced, according to World Vision. Food, shelter, and health care are a struggle. More than 350,000 pregnant women, for example, are struggling to access health care and daily essentials, according the UN.

Funds raised in Missouri will benefit the Istanbul Rotary Club’s Project Hope, which is providing housing (523 tents and a 120-family “container camp”); food and hygiene (2,300 boxes of 11kg food packages); health care (a mobile hospital to replace one that was destroyed); and education (two mobile education centers) for survivors.

Donations in any amount are desperately needed, and deeply appreciated. Steven Youngblood has organized this fundraiser.
