If you were unable to attend here is the homework for us to work on.

Save the Date - December Third Thursday Happy Hour

Cheryl and Dave Rittman have invited out members and guests for the Third Thursday Happy Hour to be at their home. Members normally pay for their food and beverages at the Happy Hours. The cost for the evening will be the cost for the caterers. Cheryl and Dave have offered to provide the liquid refreshments.

Address following in the coming days.

Please let me know by a YES or NO so arrangements can be completed with the caterers for the refreshments.

Save the Date - Snowflake Party

Saturday, January 6th

Our Annual Snowflake Dinner is scheduled for 6pm at Café Des Amis on January 6th, 2024. Café Des Amis is located at 112 Main street, 2nd floor, Parkville, MO.

Dinner will cost $60/person (gratuity is included).

You will have a choice of 3 entrees

1) Baked Rainbow Trout, topped with crab meat, saffron béchamel sauce, and swiss cheese

2) Braised Pork Cheeks

3) Beef Filet, cooked medium, for an upcharge of $12 (so $72/dinner). Please note medium is the only option available.

Dinner will also include butternut squash soup and a warm goat cheese salad.

Dessert will be a delicious champagne mousse with pistachio cake and red fruit.

Drinks will be à la carte. You will be responsible for your drinks and your drinks' gratuity at the end of the night.

Final numbers and menu choices must be turned in by 12.31.23. We will have a sign up sheet, or you can email me directly with your choices.

**If you sign up for dinner and cancel after 12/31/23 - you will be charged for the dinner.**

THIS FRIDAY! Salvation Army Kettle Ringing Volunteers Needed

The Parkville Rotary Club is signed up to volunteer at the Salvation Army Kettle Ringing on December 9th, from 4-6:30 at the Hy-Vee at 5330 NW 64th St., Kansas City, MO 64151.

This is a great cause and we hope to see you. We will have a sign-up sheet for 45 minute shifts - if you can't stay for the entire time. Please be on the lookout for the sign-up sheet in a future email/at our club meetings.

What Happens When You Ring

Each year, The Salvation Army will serve more than 25 million people across America – including many here in your community. That means 55+ million meals for the hungry, 10+ million nights of shelter for the homeless, and countless Christmas gifts for children who may otherwise go without.

So truly, you can make a difference with every ring. The funds you raise as a Salvation Army bell ringer will make a year-round impact in your community through social services assistance, homeless shelters, disaster relief, children’s programs, rehabilitation services, anti-human trafficking, and more.

Donations in the red kettle stay local – directly impacting the lives of your neighbors by helping them in their time of need. When you ring the bell, you’re making change happen.

Medical Update from Dave Overman:

I came into the week expecting to be “kicked to the curb” by home health. Alas, my great expectation was a bust. Turns out I developed an allergic reaction to the antibiotic prescribed which specifically targets C. diff.

To borrow a line from “All Shook Up” I was “itchin’ like a man on a fuzzy tree.” When the home health nurse made her visit, I showed her the rash on my tummy. Her response was, and I quote: “Oh, c_ _ _p!” She contacted my PC doc and a new antibiotic was prescribed. Other vitals were all good. Nurse said the new antibiotic was “pretty expensive.” Rx called to let me know EXACTLY how expensive – $1600 out of my pocket! I told Rx to “put a pin in it” until I talked to my PCP.

Doc called in an other antibiotic, which so far I seem to be tolerating and my co-pay was $5. The C. diff seems to be settling down. Down side is that the new antibiotic interferes with my warfarin – so my dosage has been halved.

I finally heard from the CT scan of my shoulder. It is a torn rotator cuff, which I knew laying on the floor awaiting the EMTs. We’re gonna try PT and steroid shot(s). I really, really, really, don’t want rotator cuff surgery.
