Christine Meek-Stephens, Regent of the White Alloe DAR chapter, Parkville, MO will be speaking this Friday.
The White Alloe Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in Parkville, Missouri, on March 26, 1957, with twelve organizing members.
The name White Alloe was chosen for its historic value to the city of Parkville. In pioneer days a French fur trapper, Claude Pierre Alloe, spent his winters in a dugout at the mouth of a small branch that flowed into the Missouri River. Local lore has it that Chief Narva led the area Detroit Indian Tribe. Alloe fell in love with and married Narva’s daughter, Morning Star. Because of Alloe’s fair complexion, he was renamed “White Alloe," as was the branch where he resided. This small body of water was later to become the dividing line between the town proper and the Park University campus
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Today over ONE MILLION women have committed to the mission. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolutionary War is eligible to join.
Parkville Rotary Supports Another Global Grant UPDATE
Dalyn Novak, Foundation/Grants Chair, has reached out at the request of the eClub of WASH to see if our district would be willing to match our donation.
Also, if anyone is interested in participating in communication with the group on this global grant please let Dalyn know. They are extremely active and have Zoom meetings very often.
The Parkville Rotary Board voted recently to provide $2500 for a global grant with the WASH eClub. More information is provided below.
Global Grant Donation Request: John Nonnemaker from Leavenworth, KS (has visited our club in the past) is part of a WASH eClub (https://www.rotarywasheclub.org/). Their club’s only focus is Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene.
Global Grant Information: Chris Roesel, a Rotarian WASH Cadre member of the eClub of WASH, leads a nonprofit P2P Inc, that is implementing projects in Yumbe. He will be a technical advisor to the global grant. We reviewed the Rotary policy on Conflict of Interest and will comply with it. All funds for the global grant will go into a specific bank account that is opened and operated by RC Arua. The funds will not benefit any of the collaborators.
The purpose of this project is to benefit twelve (12) communities of about 18,000 people in Yumbe, Uganda with water, sanitation, hygiene, and point-of-use filters. The goal of this grant is to provide the services to the communities and demonstrate their impacts. Previously, we have used these methods and the combination of WASH elements and measured the impact among 8,000 people in six villages of Yumbe. We have measured decreases in diarrheal incidence of 90%. The impact will be measured by decreased diarrheal and other water-borne disease incidence and expenses, increased income, and decreased school absenteeism of primary and secondary school girls. We will survey the impact of pre- and post-grant implementation.
PROJECT BUDGET: $121,922 (currently total funding is at $80,912.00)
REQUEST: $2500 or other amount donation to a Global Grant to bring fresh water to Uganda which will address: Diarrhea, water, sanitation, hygiene, and filters.
Chris Roesel has also requested that we reach out to District 6040 to see if they would be willing to match our donation. Dalyn has reached out to Karyn Eppler, the Global Grants Chair.

Volunteers Needed at The Farmer's House!
The Farmer's House is looking for volunteers to help Farmers learn cooking skills and safety. Please see below and sign up directly with The Farmers House in the link provided.
The Farmer's House is looking for Program Volunteers (must be 18 or older) to assist our Farmers in learning new cooking skills and kitchen safety through our Social Enrichment Program. The class will be held Tuesday evening, February 27th at the Platte Woods United Methodist Church (7310 NW Prairie View Rd., Platte Woods, MO 64151). The class runs from 6-7:30 pm, but we ask for volunteers to arrive at 5:45 pm to assist in setting up.

February Third Thursday Social - Volunteer with us at Harvesters!
For our social for the month of February, we would like to invite you out to please come help us from 6-8 pm at Harvesters (3801 Topping Ave., Kansas City, MO 64129). We will be sorting and packing food.

The following are important things you need to know about volunteering in our warehouse:
All volunteers must be free of any contagious illness (runny nose, colds, the flu, strep throat, etc.)
Long pants and close toe and heel shoes are required.
Volunteers wearing open shoes will not be able to serve in the Volunteer Engagement Center
Open shoes include, but are not limited to, clogs and sandals
Crocs must be worn with the back strap covering the heel
Dressing in layers and bringing a jacket is recommended, even during the summer.
Please leave all valuable jewelry at home. This includes rings which may come off in the packing process.
Parking is limited so please carpool. Visitor parking is available in front of the building and in an overflow lot across the street. If spots fill, please limit street parking to the east side (closest to the building). Please enter through the Volunteer Entrance (under the red awning).
We encourage volunteers to bring donations with them when they volunteer or to donate to our virtual food drive by following this link: http://www.harvesters.org/PlanAFundraiser. Every $1 donated to Harvesters helps provide 2 meals. In February, we are encouraging volunteers to bring no sugar or low-sugar healthy snacks, such as trail mix, fruit cups, and granola bars.
Please let me know if you would like to help and we can coordinate carpooling. We will have a sign up sheet at future Rotary meetings. You must RSPV for this event.
