Please join us for a virtual ZOOM meeting:
Meeting ID: 298-478-705
Topic: Park University Update
The speaker will be Shane Smeed, Interim President of Park University, who will talk about “What is Happening at Park University in this Post Covid Era”.  Shane has been the Chief Operating Officer at Park for several years. The program was arranged by Don Breckon.
Parkville Rotary 2021 RYLA Recipients
Last week the newsletter noted that two of the four RYLA recipients would attend last week's meeting to tell us about their experience.  All four were able to attend and are pictured below.
(L to R): Will Murray, Bennet Schmidt, Landon Stuhlsatz, and Anna Katz
Congratulations to these four students!  We are very proud of them and happy they were all able to attend RYLA June 2021. It was obvious that they learned a lot during their time at RYLA.
Thank you to our Flag Program Volunteers!
Dave Rittman captured this photo of Parkville Rotarian Neil Davidson and Shawnda Zwitterstaetter out in the middle of the traffic circle at Parkville Commons putting flags up in a heavy rain. This is true dedication!
Thank you to all of our Flag Program volunteers.  We couldn't do it without you!
Introducing the Parkville Rotary Book Club
This is an invitation to read a leadership or personal development type book & discuss with your fellow community leaders at Rotary.  We will discuss for 10-15 minutes or so after the meeting on Fri 8/13/21 & someone else can pick the next book.
So come with ideas...  No need to RSVP, we’re going to keep this very informal.  Our book for this first meeting is Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek, available on Audible, approximately 8 hours.
About Sinek, from Amazon: “Simon Sinek, an unshakable optimist, is the author of the bestselling book Start with Why, which challenged traditional assumptions about how great leaders and great companies inspire people. He has presented his ideas to Fortune 100 companies and small start-ups; to nonprofits and members of Congress; to foreign ambassadors and the highest levels of the U.S. military, among many others. His TEDTalk based on Start with Why is the second most popular video of all time on He lives in New York City.”
About Leaders Eat Last also from Amazon, regarding his search for why some teams pull together & others don’t: “The answer became clear during a conversation with a Marine Corps general. ‘Officers eat last,’ he said. Sinek watched as the most junior Marines ate first while the most senior Marines took their place at the back of the line. What's symbolic in the chow hall is deadly serious on the battlefield: Great leaders sacrifice their own comfort--even their own survival--for the good of those in their care.” This is part of my focus to reconnect with each other after a long COVID hiatus.
I hope you’ll join us.
