The Parkville Rotary Book Club - Book 2
Thank you to all those who participated in reading Book 1 - Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek. Book two will be Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss.
The goal of this group is to read a leadership or personal development type book & discuss with your fellow community leaders at Rotary. We will discuss for 10-15 minutes or so after the meeting on Friday, September 17th.
So come with ideas... No need to RSVP, we’re going to keep this very informal.
We hope you’ll join us!

A few members asked that I (Dalyn Novak) keep the club updated on how my daughter, Camille, did at the State Fair this past week. Camille and Roo won 1st place in the Missouri State Fair Crowing Contest on Monday afternoon! They had tied for 2nd place during the preliminary round on Saturday which put them into the final round on Monday afternoon. Roo crowed 26 times during the preliminary round.
Below is my facebook post about their win but one thing I didn't mention is that Roo is a full-size, standard rooster and all of the other roosters in the final rounds were bantams (or mini breeds). For some reason the smaller breeds crow more than the larger breeds, typically, but Roo wasn't going to let those little roosters win! We also heard from some of the other competitors that a full-size rooster hasn't won the competition in 10-15 years. Camille had some tricks to get him to crow but he does not crow on command by any means!
Here is the post I included on Facebook after their big win:
Roo did it again! He won the Missouri State Fair Crowing Contest this afternoon. He won with 30 crows in 30 minutes. Second place had 29 crows and third place had 28 crows so it was a tight race. Camille and Roo won a rosette ribbon, a trophy, a plaque, AND $150!!
Camille had the Missouri State Fair Queen as her crow counter during the competition today. Afterwards many people congratulated her and said they were rooting for her and Roo. She was the youngest in the contest and the only girl. Two radio stations interviewed her afterwards too. It was a busy day!
Roo could not have won without two of his girlfriends who helped him crow his best. Thank you to Red and Hawk, two of our hens, who were there cheering him on during the competition.
After the Platte County Fair we could say we had the noisiest rooster in all of Platte County and now we can say, “WE HAVE THE NOISIEST ROOSTER IN THE STATE OF MISSOURI!!!”
This photo was on the Missouri State Fair's facebook page after the contest.
