McKinney-Vento & Foster Care Liaison
I am one of 25 school social workers with the Park Hill School District. I serve as the McKinney-Vento and Foster Care Liaison for the district. The McKinney-Vento Act, the Fostering Connections Act, and the Every Student Suceeds Act are all federal laws that require schools to do everything in their power to ensure the educational stability of students whose housing situation is unstable due to homelessness or placement in foster care. These laws require that schools provide these highly mobile and extremely vulnerable students the support that they need and to address any barriers that may exist to their successful participation in school, such as food, clothing, school supplies, and transportation, just to name a few. This is a BIG task, and our schools need the help of our communities to meet this ever-growing need! I look forward to speaking to you all next week and sharing with your group how you can help make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable children!
