Leadership

Buffy Smith grew up on a cattle and row crop family ranch in Harrison County. She went to the University of Missouri-Columbia where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. After graduation, she moved to Kansas City to begin working for Congressman Sam Graves and Missouri’s Sixth Congressional District. Buffy began as a Staff Assistant and held a number of positions in the office including Field Representative, Legislative Correspondent, and Director of Operations.

She took a few years to raise her children and work for organizations on public advocacy. Buffy has also worked for and volunteered for many candidates for office in Missouri. In 2017, she was elected to the Platte County R-3 Board of Education and served for six years. She was elected as President and Vice President of the Board during her service. Buffy returned to Congressman Graves’ office in 2020 as his District Director and now serves as his Chief of Staff.

She was awarded the Northland Chamber of Commerce’s Exemplary Leadership award.

Buffy and her husband, Matt, live on a small farm in Platte County with their two children and spend their available time with them and traveling to sporting events.
